Welcome.
The original Main Street Theatre Company was formed 45 years ago in the, then, new Kibworth High School. Attracting performers and actors from Kibworth and the neighbouring villages, the company grew from strength to strength performing plays and musicals in the bespoke Drama studio. The group soon achieved the accolade of being known as ‘An amateur group with a professional touch’. This we still stand by today.
However, several years after its conception, our company had to leave the High School as the school needed to reclaim the studio. After a long and protracted search for new premises, we relocated to Great Glen Village Hall situated on Main Street, hence MSTC! Moving from a very modern setting to a relatively old village hall was heartbreaking but it soon became apparent that it is not the building that is important but the people – and we have such lovely people!
So, that year we opened in Great Glen with the musical ‘Oklahoma’ and haven’t looked back since. Having taken our Kibworth audiences with us and also attracting a new one from Great Glen, we started to perform such musicals as ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘Cabaret’, ‘Sweet Charity’, ‘High Society’, ‘Guys and Dolls’ ‘Oliver’ and many more. Alongside these came comedies and farces to really make our audiences laugh. And of course, we also performed our annual Pantomimes for which we have become renowned. Murder Mysteries have also proved to be a great success with our audiences and many of these we have taken on tour. Ever since ‘Cabaret’, we have changed our seating arrangements so that instead of being in rows our audience now sit at round tables in groups of six. This makes for a much more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.
But then a few years ago it was announced that plans were afoot to knock down our village hall and to create instead a community hub with a bigger and better hall. This has now been on the cards for some time, so with the timetable hotting up, we decided we needed to make plans to temporarily move our group to another building. To our great delight, Kibworth Theatre Company kindly agreed that we could join, at least until our new hall is completed. So, in May 2022, we were thrilled to be able to put on our first combined production of ‘Allo ‘Allo which both companies were very proud of.
This year we successfully put on a Murder Mystery evening which we took on tour at various local village halls during the month of March 2023, a production of 'A Bunch of Amateurs' (with KTC) and we are currently working on another joint production with Kibworth Theatre Company. Oh yes, we are also always looking for new people both on stage and back stage to join us so please feel free to come along to see what we get up to.
